We all create our own image of what life is. Nobody can tell you the sky is blue, if you really see it as green. That’s the irony of the human experience. There are many things that are real and concrete. But there are also many things that are up to your own personal perspective. Some people believe in God while other people believe in Zeus. That’s your own perogative. We can’t always prove everything to everyone. If you truly believe the Earth is flat, then live your life accordingly. And all the round-earthers should do the same.
But there are some things in life that are less up to opinion. Some things in life are more fact than fiction. It’s easy to turn a blind eye to what is true information. Especially because we live in world filled with misinformation. But we should all take the time to acknowledge the points that are true, and proven. Some facts will make our lives easier when we learn to accept them rather than hide from them. We all have simple facts that we’ve come to accept and hope that others would too. So what simple fact do you wish more people understood?
Here’s my thoughts on one simple fact that I wish more people understood.
I know this might not be the most concrete fact there is. It’s more of a statement of motivation. It’s a way of living. It’s a lense in which you should use to see the world. It’s one of the key things I’ve believed in ever since I was a young child. You might have heard this phrase many times as a child. I remember hearing it from teachers, parents, and more. But I think I took it to heart a little more than my peers. It is one of the single truest things I believe and will always believe about life. There are many simple points I live by but this one is one of the most powerful.
The simple fact is… You can do, be, or acquire anything you put your mind to in this world. That’s it. Your options are limited only to what you believe they are limited to. It’s as simple as that. That’s one of truest statements for me. I’ve always felt like this rang so true in my life. And again, it’s not your traditional fact. There is no hardcore evidence to prove this is true. I don’t have files and files of research papers that document how people have changed their lives with this perspective. But I absolutely don’t doubt that it has. I would be the first person to say that it has positively impacted my life.
I’m doing things in life, that many other people would never dream of doing. And it’s not because I was blessed with some kind of gift. The way I view the world is unique yes, but the way I view myself is something that everyone can do. I look at myself as a blank canvas. I can do or be anything I ever wanted. All I have to do is put my mind to it. If I take the time to think long and hard about what I want to accomplish in this life, it is absolutely possible. There is nobody in a position that I cannot also achieve in this world. It sounds like a bunch of “hoorah!” but it’s true. We are all capable of great things. Legendary things.
I believe this with every bone in my body. If I wanted to be a fashion designer, I could get up tomorrow and launch a career in fashion. If I wanted to be a basketball player, I could get up tomorrow and start my journey to being drafted to the NBA. It sounds impossible but many have done it before. If I wanted to become a medical doctor, I could enroll back in college tomorrow and work my ass off for that degree. It’s all possible. And I will never believe it’s not possible until I’ve failed doing it myself. And failure for me isn’t an event or result. Failure is a choice.
I can only fail on the things that I decide to quit pursuing. As long as I’m in pursuit of that goal, I have not failed. As long as I have the passion to get up and strive for the things I want, then it’s still on the table. As long as I have the energy to fight back or protect myself, the fight isn’t over. It goes on. And it will go on. It will go on until I actively decide to fail. That’s the way I view. And that goes for anything I am trying to accomplish in life. And I’m not talking about a mediocre side-hobby here or there. I’ll be the world’s best fashion designer, basketball player, or medical doctor. Mediocrity is no fun.
I’m all about achieving great things. And the people that achieve great things are often the people that believed they could do it in the first place. That’s what I believe. It’s the simplest fact that I live by. And many people should live by it too. Most are scared of failure and don’t believe they can accomplish amazing things. But we’ve seen it all a million times. You can truly do anything you put your mind to. You just have to start by putting your mind to it. Then follow it up with action. That’s the key. I hope more people can adopt this mindset because it really changed my life for the better.
Don’t let failure stop you from finding your greatness within. I know you can do it.
