There is a difference between living and existing. It may be a small little difference but that difference matters. It can be the difference between happiness or a lack thereof. It can be the difference between no regrets or being regretful. It can be the difference between dreading every day or being excited for each new day. The difference makes a difference, but what exactly is it.
I’ve had the pleasure of being around both sides of the equation. I’ve taken note of many people who feel stuck or defeated in life. I’ve also observed the lives and reality of many successful people. Not only successful people, but even people who attack their lives with pure positivity. And there’s many things different in the lives of these two groups of people. But if I had to boil down the core difference into one word, it would be…
Purpose is the direction and meaning that applies to your life. It’s the one thing we all enter this world without, but should find before our way out. And you can find it any and everywhere.
I found my purpose when going through a major low point in life. It was the aftermath of a failed relationship and a dangerous downward spiral that eventually led to me finding my purpose. Maybe you watched an inspirational movie and found purpose. And she went on a mission trip and found her purpose. And someone else yet found their purpose doing drugs with a famous celebrity.
I can’t tell you how you find purpose, but I can tell you what happens after you do.
You get a weird and blissful peace of mind. You wake up each day with a sense of direction. You walk, speak, and move with energy. You stop doing things that don’t add value to your life. You drift away from the people holding you from your purpose. You gravitate towards the people brining you closer. Your friends and family see an aura of positivity around you. And the closer you get to your purpose, the more you start to radiate happiness and self-satisfaction.
If you know your purpose, you know the feeling. If you don’t, then you’ll know it when you feel it.
But this, my friends, is the difference between living and existing. Without purpose, we are just humans existing. Walking, eating, sleeping, in an endless slumber. Just existing. When we find purpose in life, we start to truly live. And that feeling is one of kind.
We’d all like to believe we’re living our best lives. But the truth is some of us are just hiding how lost we really are. Don’t hide. Search. Find your purpose, and start truly living.
We only get one life. And a life is meant to be lived.
