They say life is about the journey not the destination. They say you have to step back and savor the moment. They say you should celebrate the little wins. And when I take the time to think about it, I agree.
If you spend your whole life working towards success, it won’t be as special as the days of grueling hard work. If you spend months carving out six pack abs, they don’t replace the feeling of actually doing those sit-ups. Actually, I’m not sure about sit-ups. But nonetheless, we spend time running towards our goals and we don’t cherish the things we already have, or even just the process.
I fall victim to the chaos of real life. I should take the time to celebrate the things I have. When I do take the time to think, reflect, and cherish things in life, I always appreciate it. It doesn’t matter how small or big the thing is. And I have many things I can celebrate.
My family. My friends. My small little startup. My card collection. And so much more.
So why don’t we cherish these things?
Well you don’t know my family so that’s one. But why don’t you celebrate your family?…Or I celebrate my card collection?
Because honestly, celebrating a card collection can be real silly. Maybe I should just admire my cards. But all jokes aside, I think we’re all just too caught up in life. We’re too distracted on a million things that don’t matter that we don’t focus on one of the millions of things that do. I think we should change that.
I don’t celebrate or cherish the things that I do have enough. And I hope that as I grow as a person, I learn to be more grateful for the many things of beauty around me.
I think that’s something we can all commit to.
