The little things count in life. That’s just something we’ve come to know. There are so many little things in life that make a big difference. Like an afternoon spent alone reading. Or a fresh cup of coffee in the morning. Or even the latest meme circulating on social media.

But the big things matter too. Throwing an extravagant party for your 21st birthday in Vegas. Traveling outside the country for vacation every year. Or the newest season of Game of Thrones or Stranger Things. Those matter too.

Life is such a one of kind experience. It only ever happens to you once, but is made up of hundreds of thousands of small events. Some events we will all have… Birth. Birthdays. Death. Other events are much more optional… Falling in love. Selling a business. Winning the lotto.

It’s amazing, all these beautiful, sad, unique events we as humans have the chance to experience. However, throughout life these events start to lose their spunk. There’s a time and a place for everything. It’s not always easy to pinpoint the right place for something. But when it comes to the time, it’s pretty straight-forward… the right time is now. Obviously this isn’t fact, but as a rule of thumb, great things are always done now. However, everyone isn’t down to do it now.

Some people don’t want to chase their dreams now. Some people don’t want to get married right now. Other people aren’t focused on health and wellness right now. And nothing is wrong with the people not willing to do something right right now. But the question for them is… If not now, then when?

They say life is about the journey not the destination. They say you have to step back and savor the moment. They say you should celebrate the little wins. And when I take the time to think about it, I agree.

If you spend your whole life working towards success, it won’t be as special as the days of grueling hard work. If you spend months carving out six pack abs, they don’t replace the feeling of actually doing those sit-ups. Actually, I’m not sure about sit-ups. But nonetheless, we spend time running towards our goals and we don’t cherish the things we already have, or even just the process.

We’d all like to believe that we don’t care what others think. We tell ourselves we act without any thought as to what others feel. But even if you happen to be that one in a million person that could just care less nine times out of ten, you have to admit sometimes you care. There’s that one out of ten times that you just want to make a good impression on the boss. Or that first time meeting her parents and you want to come across charismatic. Sometimes it’s just your own parents that you want to represent well and make proud. We all think and act sometimes, like we know people are judging us. And honestly speaking, most times they are.

Once upon a time, I was an avid believer that being emotional was a bad thing. As a young teen I always struggled with my emotions. It was a big deal to me. I didn’t think I was over-emotional or had too many emotions. But rather, I felt like I had no emotions whatsoever. I felt a little distant, like I never felt enough emotions. Some days I would even find myself casually feeling an emotion but at the absolute wrong times. Imagine being the creepy guy in the back, smirking and laughing at your great grandmother’s funeral.
